Flange Weight Calculation Formula
Net Weight = (Disk Volume + RF Volume − Bore Volume − Holes Volume − Chamfer Volume) × Density
- Disk Volume = π × (OD/2)² × Thickness
- RF Volume = π × (OD/2)² × RF_height (0 if no raised face)
- Bore Volume = π × (ID/2)² × (Thickness + RF_height)
- Holes Volume = N × π × (hole_dia/2)² × (Thickness + RF_height)
- Chamfer Volume = ½ × chamfer² × 2π × (ID/2 + chamfer/2) (45° triangle ring)
FAQs
A 45° chamfer is a beveled edge cut at a 45-degree angle on the inner bore of the flange. This calculator subtracts the volume of this triangular section when calculating the total weight.
A raised face is a small raised ring on the flange for sealing purposes. It is typically 2.0 mm high and is included in the weight calculation.
Bolt holes remove material from the flange and reduce its total weight. The calculator subtracts the volume of all the bolt holes from the volume of the main disc and raised face.
A blind flange is a solid disk used to close the end of a piping system. It has no bore (ID = 0). In this calculator, set Inside Diameter (ID) to 0 to calculate a blind flange weight. The chamfer volume will automatically be zero since there's no bore edge.
This calculator uses geometric formulas for all volume-related calculations. For standard flanges, provided the dimensions are accurate, the calculated weight falls within ±1–2% of the actual weight.
